Following the persecution of Gihae and Byeongin, about 300 Catholics were martyred by methods such as beheading, teaching, and burial. Unfortunately, only a fraction of those who were martyred are known.

When too many believers were arrested, the punishment devised by the police officers or soldiers who got tired of seeing blood was the punishment devised as an easy way to execute them.
