Gaidar Unit

The Gaïdar Unit is made up of 9 members, all of whom are of retirement age. Kim-Hùông lives in Vietnam, Marie-Odile Brunet in France and the 7 others in Belgium: Fina, Josee and Maria in Flanders, Clo, Pierre, Olivette and Marielle in Brussels.

All members of the Unit have experienced one or more periods of integration into another culture. Periods of several years for studies or with a professional commitment: Clo de Jamblinne in the USA and Rwanda, Thran Thi Kim Hùông in Belgium, Olivette Mikolajczak in India and Vietnam, Fina Bijnens in the DRC, Cameroon and Switzerland , Pierre Daveloose in the DRC, Burundi, Vietnam and Thailand, Maria Witvrouwen in Brazil, Josee Wijns in the DRC, Marielle Peltier in Burundi and Marie-Odile Brunet in Lebanon and Belgium. These experiences are the foundation of our openness to the world and of our Universality.

Today, Marie-Odile (68) is responsible for the Bulletin of the Association and a member of the International Secretariat for 12 years.

All the other members of the Unit are retired (the eldest is 94 and the youngest 77). To the extent of their means, they all remain open to the world (information, reading, meetings, etc.) and are involved in AFI structures or other Associations or communities (OXFAM, Collectif pour des Accords de Pêche Equitables, Christian community…)

We meet one day a month in Brussels to share and discuss topics that interest us or questions relating to AFI. With time and age, contacts have become difficult with Kim-Hùông. But, through one of her neighbors who has an internet connection, we can at least find out how she is and assure her that she is still one of us.
